Vitali?s manager wants him to retire if he wins election ? Boxing News
While Vitali Klitschko has clarified that he will not be retiring soon, his manager Bernd Boente believes it is time for the Ukrainian to take responsibility of his country. According to Boente, it is more important for Vitali to grab a political seat in order to ensure democracy and freedom from corruption in his country than fight David Haye.
?If Vitali gets a role after the elections where he can make a difference, I suppose that would be the end of his career,? said Boente in an interview to Sport Bild, a German news organisation. ?As a friend and manager, that?s what I would advise. The fight for democracy and against corruption is more important than a fight against David Haye.?
Vitali Klitschko recently defended his title against Manuel Charr of Germany. The fight was being considered as the Ukrainian?s last career fight. However, since the fight ended up in a disappointing victory for Klitschko, the Ukrainian has changed his plans. Manuel Charr suffered an eye cut in the early rounds and the fight was stopped by the fourth round.
Although Charr was capable enough to keep fighting, his corner thought otherwise. During the post fight conference, Charr framed the fight as a not-so-happening victory for Vitali. He praised Vitali for being a great champion but added that the Ukrainian could have defeated him better.
Similarly, Vitali?s long time foe David Haye hit the iron too. According to Haye, Vitali?s victory over Charr was shameful. Haye, who has been challenging Vitali for quite some time now, believes the champion is hiding behind his political agenda to save himself from a defeat by the Briton.
According to Haye, he was promised by Vitali?s manager for a title shot if he defeated Dereck Chisora. To Vitali?s surprise, Haye successfully defeated Chisora and is now in line for a title shot. If Vitali does not retire, he will certainly be going for a title shot against David Haye next year. However, if his political ambitions hinder his way, Haye might be fighting for the vacant title next year.
