Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy...they all come out in this 3D animation where monsters who have to get away from humans and the horrors of modern life head to Hotel Transylvania.
Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) is the head of the house at Hotel Transylvania. And when his daughter Mavis (voiced by Selena Gomez) longs for the human world, problems arise, causing quite a scare for the hotel guests.
There are more than a dozen celebrity voiceover characters here which does add to the mainly slapstick animation consisting of supernatural chase scenes and jokes involving excrement, ectoplasmic goo, rear ends and breaking wind. ?The film is a perfectly Halloween-themed movie for kids, but leaves very little for the adults.
It's a fun film but the 3D really isn't necessary, and the storyline, as you might expect, is predictable. The funny gags and lovable characters help make this film, so the Flick-O-Meter gives Hotel Transylvania a three out of five. It's good enough for the trick-or-treat crowd but it certainly could have used a bit more bite and a lot less gas.

Two decades of deflation, following the great Japanese property bubble burst in the early nineties, have left speculative investors on the sidelines as far as Japan is concerned. The ultra-safe and highly regulated business environment, tax incentives for foreign investors, and even the promise of spectacular cash-flow, in a world gone mad with negatively geared sub-prime properties, have not been enough to lure those who seek capital growth back to the land of the rising sun ? until now.
Since the beginning of the year, and particularly in light of the recent European crisis, which seems to be headed nowhere fast, interest in Japanese property, and particularly in Tokyo office and commercial real-estate, is rising sharply ? helped significantly by the first signs of would-be recovery in twenty years, as dropping vacancy rates and minute rises in rents seem to suggest the trend is finally reversing. Temasek Holdings Pte. Ltd, a Singapore state-investment firm, have this week joined the ranks of big names such as Goldman Sachs, Angelo Gordon, and even trouble-stricken Aviva Investors ? which only last week reported it may close several of its international desks, fire a large number of employees, and possibly ditch its global REIT fund. All of the above have been actively purchasing office towers and commercial spaces in and around Tokyo?s hottest spots.
Spectacularly, Tokyo?s office space is outperforming Singapore and Hong-Kong, where rents have been dropping in the last 2-3 quarters. Japan?s government, which predicts it will break out of the deflationary cycle for the first time in twenty years, desperately needs the cash injection, as reconstruction efforts following the great 2011 earthquake, tsunami and subsequent nuclear spillage are ending ? putting a damper on the expansion of the world?s third largest economy, which also happens to be home to the worlds largest trade deficit, and the worlds most swiftly aging population.
While China, one of the world?s largest polluters, hasn?t quite seen the light yet, other nations around the continent are doing their best to introduce cleaner, greener technologies into their property building techniques, as two large exhibitions planned for next month portray. Build Eco Expo (BEX) Asia, to be held in Malaysia, and International Green Building Conference (IGBC) in Singapore will showcase the world?s most advanced ecological building technologies, initiatives and achievements from the past year.
With an impressive cadre of over 200 exhibitors from over 30 different countries around the globe, and a gallery of leading speakers in the green leadership and green community fields, the two expos are guaranteed to draw an ever increasing annual crowd. One of the participants, Shimuzu Corp., has claimed earlier this year that it believes its new Tokyo headquarters building omits less carbon dioxide per square meter than any other building in the world ? a bold claim which the company, which manufactures many of the technologies involved in achieving this aim, will seek to prove.
* Asia-Pacific?s retail property market continues to solidify, as Jones Lang Lasalle reports that investments in retail real estate rose 22%, to 12.4 billion USD, in the first half of 2012. China and India top the Asian retail index, followed by Indonesia, Turkey and Vietnam. China in particular, is highly regarded as the world?s most prospering retail and shopping centre market, and has been so for some time.
* Vietnam, as well, has seen more of the international property investment limelight this week, as CBRE Group, 2011?s largest revenue yielding commercial real estate services firm, acquired its affiliate company in Vietnam for an undisclosed amount ? seeking to offer seamless integrated services in the country, which signifies south-east Asia?s increasing property investment potential.
* RREEF Real Estate, a unit of Deutsche Asset Management (Asia) Ltd, owned by the Deutsche Bank Group of Germany, has similarly been quoted this week as recommending investors to diversify their alternative investments, specifically including Asian real estate, to counter declines in traditional assets, such as bonds and stocks. RREEF, which holds app. 4.4 billion USD?s worth of Asian property assets, has issued a report earlier this year highly recommending investment in Japanese REITs (J-REITs) ? and have now added the main cities of Jakarta (Indonesia), Kuala-Lumpur (Malaysia) and Bangkok (Thailand) to their list of recommended property markets.

I agree with Matt Latimer that the Massachusetts Senate race has taken an ugly turn into sideshow. Scott Brown, concerned about the prospect of losing, threw the kitchen sink at Elizabeth Warren in the first debate, and ever since then, the race has been dominated by anecdote, trivia and out-of-context finger-pointing.
So I don?t want to contribute to that. But as long as we?re talking about prior work histories among these candidates, Scott Brown made an interesting disclosure to reporters the other day. He casually mentioned that he, in fact, was a real estate attorney, who ran a small practice out of his home. He apparently was the guy who came to your house to do a real estate closing, a cog in the mortgage wheel. And he did this for the past nine years, encompassing all of the major years of the housing bubble.
According to Brown, he worked with small community banks and small mortgage companies in his part of Massachusetts, and as a title agent for two companies in particular: Fidelity National and First American. Now that?s a notable disclosure. As Adam Levitin points out, Fidelity National is the former parent company of LPS, one of the worst offenders in the foreclosure fraud industry. Fidelity National split with LPS very quickly once their worst abuses came to light.
As I?m sure you can gather from my reports here, LPS was a middleman in this game, providing faulty documents ? often off a prescribed menu, where you pay $100 for a mortgage assignment, or $150 for a full loan file ? through its subsidiary DocX. This company facilitated forgeries and mass false documents, which we know through Lynn Szymoniak?s work. The Linda Green phenomenon came right out of LPS and DocX. This is where robo-signing lived.
LPS has friends in high places ? members of Florida?s Attorney General?s office left to work with LPS even as the company was under investigation by the same office ? but they still operate under a consent order by the Federal Reserve for multiple violations of law. LPS was sued by the state of Nevada for document fraud (Nevada criminally indicted two LPS employees in the case), and also by the state of Missouri in a criminal case that was later settled. One of the whistleblowers against LPS, who was vital to the Nevada case, mysteriously turned up dead.
This is a terrible company for a US Senator to be involved with. All Brown has said is that he did ?title work? for Fidelity National, so we don?t know much more. But Levitin asks some pertinent questions.
Who were those ?mortgage companies? that he worked for? It?s nice that Brown named a bunch of local banks, but I wonder what lies under the ?mortgage company? label? What did Scott Brown understand about the mortgage market he was facilitating? Did he recognize that there was a bubble? (He was a town property assessor at one point, so one would think he?d notice this sort of thing.) If not, what does that say? And if so, what does that say? How many predatory loans did Scott Brown facilitate? How many of the loans where he handled the closing resulted in foreclosure? What would he say to those families that lost their homes to predatory loans?
I suspect that Brown?s reply to these questions would be ?Aw shucks, I?m just a guy with a pickup truck with 238,000 miles on it who was helping people out by doing the paperwork on their real estate closings.? That?s not good enough. Either Brown was so inept that he didn?t see that the loans he was closing were becoming untenable or Brown saw the problem and didn?t do anything. As long as the music?s playing, the guy?s gotta earn a living, right?
I actually think this is more of an issue about Brown?s actions during the financial reform bill. He held out in the bill, getting a bank fee removed that would have paid for much of the regulatory measures, and weakening the Volcker rule to allow more proprietary trading among big financial institutions. So Brown was a cog in the great finance wheel when doing these closings and ?title work,? and also when a US Senator trying to enable as much profit-earning risk in the big financial institutions as possible. A useful cog.
Levitin certainly has a professional relationship with Warren, but he?s merely teasing out Brown?s relationship as a keep-your-head-down facilitator of bad mortgages, in association with one of the biggest malefactors in the entire foreclosure fraud industry. I don?t think Brown ?knew? anything about what was going on, necessarily, but there is something to be said about the company you keep.
More here.

PORT WASHINGTON, NEW YORK, September 26, 2012 ?
According to The NPD Group, a leading market research company, over the past year, the number of consumers reporting that the TV is their primary screen for viewing paid and free video streamed from the Web has risen from 33 percent to 45 percent. During the same period, consumers who used a PC as the primary screen for viewing over-the-top (OTT) streamed-video content declined from 48 percent to 31 percent. This shift not only reflects a strong consumer preference for watching TV and movies on big screen TVs, but also coincides with the rapid adoption of Internet-connectible TVs.
NPD?s recent ?Digital Video Outlook? report reveals that home installation of millions of Internet-connected TVs is changing the way that consumers access and view streaming video. As of the second quarter (Q2) of 2012, 12 percent of the installed base of consumer TVs in the U.S. were connected TVs, totaling more than 29 million devices. Approximately 10 percent of U.S. consumer households currently own at least one connected TV. NPD research conducted over the past year has found that 43 percent of connected TV users accessed online entertainment directly from their TVs, including online video, music, and cloud services.
?The growth in connected TVs is another sign that online video is maturing,? said Russ Crupnick, senior vice president of industry analysis for The NPD Group. ?Streaming video has moved from the dorm room to the living room; and, as more households obtain and connect TVs to the Web, we predict increased trial and engagement for video distribution services.?
Netflix Watch Instantly is the dominant application for Web-to-TV video. Of those viewing online video on the TV, 40 percent use their connected TVs to stream video via Netflix, 12 percent access HuluPlus, and 4 percent connect to Vudu. Connected TVs, which offer direct access to these and other popular online video services via TV apps, represent a convenient alternative to PCs, or the use of other Internet-connected peripheral devices.
NPD?s study also found that nearly one in five connected-TV installations resulted in consumers no longer using peripheral devices, such as streaming media players, video game consoles, and Blu-ray Disc players, to access streaming video on the TV. This decline in usage could impact the usage models and utility of peripheral devices.
Data note: NPD?s ?Digital Video Outlook? report is based on data collected from multiple sources, including two electronic surveys. The quarterly survey includes approximately 1,200 U.S. broadband households. Survey data was weighted to represent U.S. population (age 13 and older) and tested for statistical significance at the 95 percent confidence level. The semi-annual survey includes approximately 10,000 respondents. Data from this survey has a 97% level of confidence, with a +/- 0.7% margin of error.

Years ago, when I was seeking for ways to naturally heal from Hashimoto?s Thyroiditis, I found a wonderful Naturopath that suggested over and over that I get my silver/amalgam fillings replaced.? I kept putting it off, not feeling that I could afford it or that it would make much of a difference anyway. Then I lost a baby during the second trimester of a pregnancy. I realized I needed to get a little more serious about his advice.? The money we had set aside for our baby was then free to be used to take care of my teeth.? I had fillings in every quadrant of my mouth, I believe 8 overall.? I thought it so interesting how my Dr. went about chelating (pronounced KEY-lating) the mercury and other heavy metals from my body that were most likely affecting my thyroid gland as well as other parts of my endocrine system.? It took a few months to completely chelate enough of the metals out of my tissue using special clay baths, but over time my thyroid levels did returned to normal, to the utter surprise of our family physician. I am so grateful to state that today I have a perfectly healthy thyroid.
When Dr. David K. Hill D.C., Chief Medical Advisor and Chairman of doTERRA?s Scientific Advisory Board, referenced a study done on the affects of Cilantro and its benefit in chelating mercury from the body, my eyebrows raised and my ears opened wide.? The study only references mercury, but I would personally suppose that if mercury can be chelated with cilantro, then maybe it is also helping clean out other heavy metals such as lead and aluminum.
You can read the study on PubMed.gov here.? The study showed that after the removal of amalgam fillings, and despite the use of normal holistic dentistry practices of a rubber dam and proper ventilation & suction, deposits of mercury that were previously non-existent, were found in all the major organs of the body (ie. lungs, kidneys, endocrine organs, liver, and heart).? The mercury deposits were then successfully removed by ingesting 400mg/day of Chinese Parsley, aka Cilantro, for a period of around 4 weeks (400mg is equal to about 7-8 drops of cilantro essential oil). This was done for the average weight adult. Heavy metals are most often stored in the fatty tissues of the body, so the larger the body the longer it might take to chelate the body of the heavy metal.
Of course in my own personal excitement for this, I got my Cilantro oil and started taking it daily.? I could tell that taking 7-8 drops in a capsule all at once was a bit taxing on my kidneys, so from personal experience I would recommend spreading it throughout the day and allowing the body to pull the metal out in a more gentle way by using 1-2 drops in a capsule, 4x/day for 4+ weeks.
Another thought is to consider the connection between Traditional Chinese Medicine tongue mapping and the deposits of heavy metals in the body.? Through the chelating process the tongue could also experience its own kind of ?detox? which is what I believe I experienced the first few days on the oil because of the funny metal taste I had in my mouth as well as sores that appeared on my tongue.
I personally feel that when evaluating your body systems and healing processes, first, determine your heavy metals overload. After removing those toxins from the body, re-evaluate you health conditions and concerns. If I was one struggling with any of the following disorders I would suggest getting tested for heavy metal toxicity and evaluating your need for replacing your fillings and/or chelating your body of excess heavy metals.
These disorders include: chronic physical and mental health conditions, like depression, anxiety, heart disease, addiction, cancer, chronic fatigue, headaches, high blood pressure, autism, memory loss, dementia, Alzheimer?s, adrenal disorders, thyroid disorders, candida overgrowth, Parkinson?s, chronic pain, hyperactivity, attention deficit, arthritis, MS and other auto-immune disorders, to name a few.
I can?t speak for the efficacy or purity of other brands of oils.? I prefer and suggest the use of doTERRA CPTG essential oils.? Feel free to learn more about them at www.doterrauniversity.com

NEW YORK (AP) ? What a difference a year makes.
This time last year, Emily VanCamp was hoping and praying her ABC series "Revenge" would be a success. It was ? and regularly won its time slot.
Now she's gearing up for the show's second season, premiering Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT.
"I was wondering what was going to happen with the show and, oh gosh, I remember just trying to repress the stress so much," VanCamp said in a recent interview. "You just want to focus on the work and not pay too much attention to all that stuff, but you're putting so much of yourself into it, and the fact that it all paid off and that it did so well has been kind of extraordinary. It's been a crazy year to say the least."
VanCamp plays Emily Thorne, a young woman out to get even for her father's death. She infiltrates a wealthy community in the Hamptons to take down the people who betrayed her family.
Like her character, 26-year-old VanCamp is a private person who prefers to remain a bit of a mystery to the public. She doesn't like to talk about her personal life (although she's rumored to be dating her "Revenge" co-star Josh Bowman) and says she's trying to come to terms with the public's interest in her life now that she has a hit TV show.
"We live in a time where the media is a very difficult thing to navigate because it's everywhere, and I tend to want to be a lot more private with my life," she said. "I've managed to do that for 10 years in this business.
"I've found a really nice balance, but this show is a different scale so ... I'm trying to figure all that out at the moment but ... some of the actors that I admire the most do have an element of intrigue. You don't know everything about them. It's very important to be able to distinguish the actors from the characters they play."
One thing VanCamp is getting used to as a leading lady is being sleep deprived.
"I'm exhausted almost all the time," she said. "I keep saying I'm weirdly preparing myself for motherhood because once you can get ahold of this sleep deprivation thing I think you have a leg up. And I'm definitely sleep deprived."
VanCamp also has adjusted to her high-profile role in "Revenge" by seeing herself as part of an "incredible" cast.
"I think it's really interesting to say 'my show' or 'I'm a lead of it' because it is such a collaborative thing ... but I am definitely there all the time," she laughed.
"I'm excited by challenging myself physically and mentally every day. That's what keeps me going and makes me love what I do so I really can't complain about it." She pauses then says: "I complain sometimes. I'm not gonna lie."

Apparently, Audrey Miller (pictured) was arguing with her husband when he threatened to shoot one of her beloved cats with a pellet gun.
Her response? She shot him in the stomach instead.
This all happened in Harris County, Texas. Luckily, the husband is currently in stable condition after surviving the surgery to repair the damage the .40 caliber handgun did to him.
Now, I don?t condone shooting most of the time. But I also don?t condone threatening pets with violence. After all, they are smaller than we are and trust us to take care of them.
Still, I don?t condone the shooting. Really.

ScienceDaily (Sep. 27, 2012) ? A new research study led by an Indiana University professor has found that social bullying is just as prevalent in children's television as depictions of physical aggression.
The study, "Mean on the Screen: Social Aggression in Programs Popular With Children," which appears in the Journal of Communication, found that 92 percent of the top 50 program for children between the ages of 2 and 11 showed characters involved in social aggression.
On average, there were 14 different incidents of social aggression per hour, or once every four minutes.
While physical aggression in television for children has been extensively documented, this is believed to be among the first studies to analyze children's exposure to behaviors such as cruel gossiping and manipulation of friendship.
"Social aggression was more likely to be enacted by an attractive perpetrator, to be featured in a humorous context and neither rewarded or punished," wrote Nicole Martins, assistant professor of telecommunications in the IU College of Arts and Sciences. "In these ways, social aggression on television poses more of a risk for imitation and learning than do portrayals of physical aggression."
Martins, the lead researcher on the study, and Barbara Wilson, professor of communication at the University of Illinois, conducted a content analysis of the 50 most popular children's shows according to Nielsen Media Research from December 2006 to March 2007. In all, 150 television shows were viewed and analyzed.
Careful attention was given to what was portrayed in the cases of social aggression, whether the behavior was rewarded or punished, justified or committed by an attractive perpetrator.
The findings suggest that some of the ways in which social aggression is contextualized make these depictions particularly problematic for young viewers.
"These findings should help parents and educators recognize that there are socially aggressive behaviors on programs children watch," Martins said. "Parents should not assume that a program is OK for their child to watch simply because it does not contain physical violence.
"Parents should be more aware of portrayals that may not be explicitly violent in a physical sense but are nonetheless anti-social in nature," Martins added.
The vast majority of socially aggressive incidents -- 78 percent -- were verbal: words to hurt the self-esteem or social standing of another character on the program. The most common types of social aggression were insults (52 percent) or name-calling (25 percent). Other common types of negative behavior shown were teasing (10 percent) and sarcasm (9 percent).
Only about 20 percent of all socially aggressive incidents were non-verbal in nature and typically employed a mean face (36 percent) or laughter meant to lower the self-esteem of another character (31 percent). Rolling eyes, finger pointing and simply ignoring the other person also were common.
"We also coded whether social aggression was directly perpetrated at the target -- such as making a mean face -- or indirectly perpetrated behind the target's back -- such as spreading a rumor," the authors wrote. "The vast majority of socially aggressive incidents (86 percent) were enacted directly at the target. Rarely were socially aggressive incidents perpetrated behind the target's back."
While previous research has demonstrated that gossip is one of the most common forms of social aggression in real life, it was rarely seen in children's television shows analyzed for the study. Martins and Wilson concluded that gossip, due to its indirect nature, may have been seen by program producers as being too subtle for advancing a story's plot.

So, here's a rough summary of what I think I've figured out for myself (your mileage may vary) while I've been writing this series so far.
Education is by definition "the development of the right use of reason and the right use of freedom." ?TEducation necessarily includes moral and theological understanding, the transmission of culture, and an especially firm grounding in human sexuality. ?A detailed list of features of education is?here. ?
Education includes features like skills-training and home economics. ?I believe this is supported by Catholic doctrine: an individual who will likely marry must be educated so that, by means of that education, he can "establish a family in favorable moral, social, and economic circumstances." ?
When it comes to determining if your education is adequate, "latent competency" counts. ?I wrote about latent competency here. ?Basically, if you've learned how to learn, and you possess the intrinsic motivation to learn, then education has done its job. ?You'll acquire what you need to know when you need it. ?
The parts of a liberal-arts education that are truly necessary for full human development must be included before high school graduation. ?When young people are legally emancipated at an arbitrary age, parents have a positive duty to present and develop (at least to latent competency) all the?necessary?components of a whole education by then; or to cultivate successfully in their children the values that will motivate their children to go on to acquire those competencies at older ages. ?Otherwise they may fail in their task of education, when a legally-adult son or daughter abandons it unfinished.?
Parents do have a positive duty to support their sons' and daughters' education beyond age 18 if they haven't acquired at least "latent" ability to establish a family in favorable circumstances. ?I believe it's contrary to Catholic understanding of the purpose of education to declare that parents can morally declare children "on their own" at an age that's derived from the civil government's arbitrary definition of the age of majority. ?But this "latent ability" can be quite broadly defined. ?A 19-year-old who's secured a scholarship and has a prudent plan for her education and future employment, and is possessed of character traits that are maturing towards healthy adulthood, can be assumed to have it, only because she's on a track that is likely to be successful.
Parents also have a positive duty to make decisions concerning the good of the whole family, including their own needs (present and anticipated). ?This creates a tension between what a single individual might demand of the parents and what parents ought prudently offer. ?
Adult sons and daughters who are so supported by their parents retain the moral duty of filial obedience. ?This extends to all matters decided by the parents for the good of the family, and continues until they become "emancipated" and are living outside the parents' home. ?Pragmatically speaking, this means that parents rightly?place judiciously chosen conditions upon financial support of their offspring's continuing education. ?The parents choose these conditions to the end?of helping their son or daughter acquire the ability to "establish a family in favorable moral, social, and economic conditions," within the limits set by the good of the whole family.
Parents may not pressure their sons and daughters in the choice of vocation, profession, or spouse.? ?But I think this still allows them to prudently offer different kinds of support to different children, tailored to the young person's particular plans, abilities, and circumstances. ?This is so even if this creates the appearance of offering more money to support some choices than others. ?Some choices need?more money; some choices might suck money into a black hole, never to be seen again. ? Some young people might achieve maturity with a little more hand-holding and direct support; some young people might need to learn from the experience of trying to support themselves. ? Education is not one-size-fits-all.
Though parents have the duty to begin education and carry it to a certain point, the adult learner bears the responsibility for a great deal of his education. ? I divided the tasks up here. ?Certain professional specializations; self-education through choice of leisure; retaining an understanding of the whole human person; cultivating appropriate patriotism; all these are assigned not to the parents, but to the adult. ?They tend to be what you might classify as "lifelong learning."
Large amounts of education debt are positively to be avoided. ? Debt is anti-vocational. ?There are probably a very few circumstances in which it is warranted, but always with caution.
The old assumptions about the value of college don't hold firm anymore. ?While in the aggregate college graduates earn more and suffer less unemployment, it's not clear that a given individual will significantly raise his future earnings (enough to justify the cost) by enrolling in a four-year university. ? Different degree programs offer widely varying prospects. ?The "signal" of a quality employee that used to be conferred by any college degree is getting diluted by sheer numbers. ? Particular individuals might do better economically if they choose an alternative to four-year-college-right-out-of-high-school; for other individuals, choosing a different path might be morally safer or might more securely develop a mature character. ?Finally, the quality of the education (measured in the richness and quality of the culture it promotes; the variety and vividness of the intellectual atmosphere; the commitment to authentic human values; the challenge to an engaged student) varies from institution to institution, department to department, so that many students graduate seemingly intellectually unchanged.
?It makes sense to delay spending any money at all on postsecondary education until the young person has a plan?that is ordered to establishing a family in favorable moral, social, and economic circumstances.?Without a plan, the education cannot be tailored to the vocation, and the money spent has a high probability of returning low value, either in tangibles or in intangibles. ?The delay can be spent in productive work, and if that's not much fun, then it is itself a motivation to come up with a plan. ?While you're at it, it's a good idea to have an "escape hatch" plan in case the first one becomes unfeasible. ?As Darwin said, "Borrowing tens of thousands of dollars is a bad way to avoid making decisions;" in my opinion, from the point of view of parents, "spending tens of thousands of dollars is a bad way to enable someone else to avoid making decisions."
Just as young people ought to consider alternative means of self-development, parents ought to consider alternative ways of materially supporting young people.? I outlined some thoughts about that here.
Consider whether you'll actually get the four things you might be buying when you pay for college: ?a signal of quality; a required credential; a set of vocational skills; and a difficult-to-measure acquisition of other experience, skills, and knowledge. ?Will you be paying too much for a poor signal, or will you be "found out" for flying a false-flag signal (because you're really not the kind of person that employers are looking for in a college graduate?) ?Do you have what it takes to obtain the required credential, or will you pay a lot of money and then drop out before getting there? ?Will the education really develop the skills you are hoping for, or is it a bunch of empty promises? ? How much are you willing to pay for returns that you think you'll value, but that are unmeasurable?
?
I think that's a good summary. ?I'm going to shift gears in my next post and consider... The Case Where Money is No Object.

WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, mocked President Obama in a video addressed to the UN Wednesday. He asked how Obama could support freedom of speech in the Middle East, but not in the context of WikiLeaks?
By Brian Winter,?Reuters / September 26, 2012

Assange, who has been holed up in the?Ecuadorean Embassy?since June to avoid extradition, made the comments at a packed event on the sidelines of the?United Nations General Assembly.
Assange mocked Obama for defending free speech in the Arab world in an address to the?United Nations?on Tuesday, pointing to his own experience as evidence that Obama has "done more to criminalize free speech than any other US president."
"It must have come as a surprise to the Egyptian teenagers who washed American teargas out of their eyes (during the Arab Spring) to hear that the US supported change in the Middle East," Assange said.
"It's time for President Obama to keep his word ... and for the US to cease its persecution of WikiLeaks," he said.
Assange's combative comments, plus statements made by Ecuadorean Foreign Minister?Ricardo Patino?and his other allies at the event, suggested no solution is in sight to the diplomatic standoff surrounding the 41-year-old Australian.
British authorities have surrounded the?Ecuadorean Embassy?and said if Assange sets foot outside, they will arrest him and extradite him to?Sweden?to face rape and sexual assault allegations.
Assange's lawyers and?Ecuador's government?fear that could lead in turn to extradition to the?United States, where they say he would face "inhumane" prison conditions and even the death penalty.
Assange, who looked to be in good health as he sat at a desk in front of a bookshelf and addressed the 150 or so people at the event, said Britain and?Sweden?have so far refused to provide guarantees he would not be extradited to the United States.
US and?European government?sources have countered that the?United States?has issued no criminal charges or launched any attempts to extradite Assange.
Patino is scheduled to meet with British Foreign Secretary?William Hague?in New York on Thursday to discuss Assange, and he said there are "multiple paths" that could lead out of the standoff. Yet, in an interview with Reuters following the U.N. event, Patino made clear that?Ecuador?is not willing to cede much ground.
"The ball's in their court right now," Patino said.
Patino held in his hands a mimeographed copy of an 1880 agreement signed between Britain and?Ecuador, which he said prohibits extradition in cases such as Assange's. He said he would show the document to Hague on Thursday.
Patino rigorously defended?Ecuador's decision to grant political asylum to Assange, expressing disbelief that Britain is "determined" to arrest the former computer hacker even though he said there are no criminal charges against him. "This means you have reason to suspect he's being persecuted," Patino said.
He said Assange is in relatively good spirits but expressed concern his physical and psychological condition could deteriorate.
"I think of myself, how I'd react in that situation, not being able to go outside, being isolated," Patino said. "It's practically like being jailed."

Home ? Editorial ? Information Technology Parks to boost Philippine Business Process Outsourcing industry
Manila, Philippines ? INFORMATION Technology (IT) Parks are rising in the provinces and in Metro Manila to provide the infrastructure and connectivity needed to boost the robust growth of the country?s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. The new IT Parks outside Metro Manila are in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Iloilo, Bi?an, Tarlac, Baguio, Cabanatuan, Dasmari?as, Dumaguete, General Santos, Lipa, Naga, San Fernando, and Urdaneta, and in the municipalities of Marilao, Bulacan; Bacong and Sibulan, Negros Oriental; Rosario and Silang, Cavite.
BPO firms are the predominant locators in IT parks registered with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority. The government offers tax incentives to BPO firms, including value-added tax and income tax exemption. The IT-BPO industry is today one of the country?s biggest job creators. In 2011, the sector recorded $11 billion investments and created 638,000 jobs. For 2012, it expects $13 billion revenues on a labor force of 764,000. By 2016, it projects $27 billion revenues and jobs for 1.3 million Filipino workers.
The rising demand for call center services leads the BPO boom. The Philippines holds a major portion of the global outsourcing market, due to the English proficiency of Filipinos. Call centers count among its clients giant multinationals. Pharmaceutical firms outsource their medical transcriptions in the country.
This year, several grants and subsidies were earmarked by various agencies and institutions for the sector?s educational and technical development. The Asian Development Bank granted P27.3 million in technical assistance for skills enhancement. State universities nationwide were allocated a budget of P125 million to fund IT-BPO-based programs. A P450-million subsidy was set aside by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for training. The Information and Communication Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology allocated P350 million to support the IT-BPO industry.
We wish Philippine Economic Zone Authority Director General Dr. Lilia B. de Lima and Information and Communication Technology Office Executive Director Department of Science and Technology Undersecretary Louis Napoleon C. Casambre, all the best and success in their unwavering support to promote the global competitiveness of the information and communication technology sector. CONGRATULATIONS AND MABUHAY!

NEW YORK (AP) ? A Wedbush analyst on Thursday cut her earnings estimates for Bebe Stores Inc., saying that she expects the women's clothing retailer to report a drop in a key sales metric for the fiscal first-quarter.
Analyst Betty Chen predicted that for the quarter ending in September, Bebe will post a 6 to 8 percent decrease in revenue at stores open at least a year. In comparison, the company posted a same-store sales increase of 7 percent for the same quarter last year.
The metric is a key measure of a retailer's health, because it excludes revenue from stores that recently opened or closed.
"We believe the company continues to lose market share to other fast fashion retailers as well as softlines peers, especially given stale promotional messages that are losing resonance with target shoppers as cited by our retail specialists," Chen wrote in a note to investors.
Chen backed her "Neutral" rating for Bebe, but cut her full-year profit prediction for the company to 7 cents per share from 12 cents per share. Analysts, on average, expect a profit of 6 cents per share, according to a FactSet poll.
Chen added that while select woven tops and bottoms, along with work-to-wear styles, have sold well, demand for its knit tops hasn't been as strong.
Bebe shares finished at $4.97 per share on Wednesday after falling to a 52-week low of $4.94 earlier in the session.
Separately on Thursday, Chen backed her "Neutral" rating for teen clothing retailer Zumiez Inc., predicting a better-than-expected 3 to 5 percent increase in September revenue at stores open at least a year.
Zumiez shares finished at $27.35 on Wednesday. They are down 35 percent from a 52-week high of $41.96 per share on June 19. They traded as low as $15.85 almost year ago.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday promised a tough response at the United Nations to the latest verbal attacks on Israeli by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and said he was determined to stop Iran developing nuclear weapons.
Before boarding a flight to New York to address the annual U.N. General Assembly, Netanyahu issued an open letter to Israelis marking the end of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the most sacred holiday in the Jewish calendar.
"On the question of Iran, we are all united in the goal of preventing Iran from achieving nuclear weaponry. On the day on which we pray to be inscribed in the Book of Life, a stage was given to the tyrannical regime of Iran which seeks at every opportunity to sentence us to death," Netanyahu said.
"On Yom Kippur eve, sacred to the Jewish people, the Iranian tyrant chose to call publicly before all of the world for us to vanish. This is a black day for those who chose to remain in the auditorium and hear these hateful words."
The Israeli leader did not name any U.N. member state in particular. The United States delegation chose not to attend Ahmadinejad's General Assembly speech, while other allies of Israel walked out.
"In statements I will make before representatives of the nations at the U.N. General Assembly, they will hear our response. As prime minister of Israel, the state of the Jewish people, I am working in every way in order that Iran does not have nuclear weaponry," Netanyahu said.
"History proves that those who wanted to wipe us off the map failed in that objective, while the Jewish people overcame all obstacles."
Jews believe that between Rosh Hashana (the Jewish new year) and Yom Kippur, God decides who will be inscribed in the Book of Life, meaning who will not die in the coming year.
Ahmadinejad's speeches in the U.N. forum included a prediction that Israel would be "eliminated".
On Wednesday, with Israelis observing a solemn silence for Yom Kippur, he told the Assembly that Iran was under a "continued threat by the uncivilized Zionists to resort to military action against our great nation".
Iran denies working in secret to develop nuclear weapons, saying that it is building a peaceful atomic power capability. Israel and its main ally the United States have repeatedly said they will not permit Tehran to build the bomb.
Netanyahu's senior advisers privately shrug off Ahmadinejad's incendiary rhetoric, saying he has no policy-making role in Iran's nuclear development program.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Barack Obama told the U.N. Assembly that time was running out to find a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. "The United States will do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon," he said.
That statement went no further than his previously stated position, appearing to ignore calls from Netanyahu urging that Washington must now set clear red lines for Iran, beyond which military action would be taken.
Relations between the men are strained. Netanyahu's office said Obama had declined a request to meet this week, but the two leaders were expected to speak by telephone.

Vitali?s manager wants him to retire if he wins election ? Boxing News
While Vitali Klitschko has clarified that he will not be retiring soon, his manager Bernd Boente believes it is time for the Ukrainian to take responsibility of his country. According to Boente, it is more important for Vitali to grab a political seat in order to ensure democracy and freedom from corruption in his country than fight David Haye.
?If Vitali gets a role after the elections where he can make a difference, I suppose that would be the end of his career,? said Boente in an interview to Sport Bild, a German news organisation. ?As a friend and manager, that?s what I would advise. The fight for democracy and against corruption is more important than a fight against David Haye.?
Vitali Klitschko recently defended his title against Manuel Charr of Germany. The fight was being considered as the Ukrainian?s last career fight. However, since the fight ended up in a disappointing victory for Klitschko, the Ukrainian has changed his plans. Manuel Charr suffered an eye cut in the early rounds and the fight was stopped by the fourth round.
Although Charr was capable enough to keep fighting, his corner thought otherwise. During the post fight conference, Charr framed the fight as a not-so-happening victory for Vitali. He praised Vitali for being a great champion but added that the Ukrainian could have defeated him better.
Similarly, Vitali?s long time foe David Haye hit the iron too. According to Haye, Vitali?s victory over Charr was shameful. Haye, who has been challenging Vitali for quite some time now, believes the champion is hiding behind his political agenda to save himself from a defeat by the Briton.
According to Haye, he was promised by Vitali?s manager for a title shot if he defeated Dereck Chisora. To Vitali?s surprise, Haye successfully defeated Chisora and is now in line for a title shot. If Vitali does not retire, he will certainly be going for a title shot against David Haye next year. However, if his political ambitions hinder his way, Haye might be fighting for the vacant title next year.

Lactose can colloquially be referred to as sugar of milk. It is composed of glucose and galactose and the digestion and absorption of lactose involves the breaking down of this complex sugar into its simpler constituents.
Lactose intolerance can be defined as the inability of the body to breakdown and absorb lactose. This can be attributed to a lack of the enzyme that is responsible for the digestion of lactose, called ?lactase?. This enzyme is secreted by the cellular lining in the small intestine.
There are various causes of lactose intolerance which can be categorized and elaborated as follows:
Congenital Causes: Sometimes, lactose intolerance is caused due to mutation in the genetic code of our ancestors and is passed on along with other hereditary traits. This is, however, a rare cause of lactose intolerance.
Secondary Causes: The secondary causes of lactose intolerance include certain infections and diseases.
Developmental Causes: Developmental causes include mutations in the genetic code of a person while still in the zygotic or embryonic phase.
Such causes of the affliction involve the evidence of the symptoms of lactose intolerance in later childhood and persist in adulthood.
When the lactose is not being broken down into simpler sugars, it is not being absorbed in the small intestine. It then passes to the colon sub-division of the large intestine where it is broken down by bacteria to releases gases like hydrogen and methane, which lead to flatus. Other symptoms of lactose intolerance are abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal bloating and distension.
Here are a few tips to relieve the symptoms of lactose intolerance:
First and foremost, you must avoid and reduce the intake of lactose in your diet. As such, you are advised not to consume milk, cheese, and ice-cream. However, the intake of yogurt in small amounts is not restricted as the bacteria in it can help in the breakdown of lactose.
You can also consume milk substitutes like soy and rice milk.
You must avoid other foods that may contain lactose like salad dressings, mixes for biscuits and cakes, margarine, baked products like bread, processed breakfast cereals, soups, and even potatoes.
As such, reducing your intake of lactose is the best way to avert the symptoms of lactose intolerance.
It is also a good idea to consult a dietician to learn more about the foods that must be consumed and the ones that should be avoided if you are lactose intolerant.
