ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) ? A northwest Missouri woman has been accused of trying to raise money by falsely claiming her daughter had a rare form of cancer. The St. Joseph News-Press reports 35-year-old Carrie Campbell of St. Joseph was charged Friday with felony forgery in connection with claims that her 17-year-old daughter had anaplastic thyroid cancer. Police Capt. Kevin Castle said a Kansas City hospital reported that Campbell had forged medical documents in order to receive benefits from the cancer diagnosis and that the diagnosis was false. She?s also accused of distributing fliers for benefit events to help pay for cancer treatment. Online court records don?t list a lawyer for Campbell, who?s scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. A message on a phone listingunder her name said it was not taking messages.
